Ethnic Minorities in Vietnam
Natalie, you have learned a lot about Canada's indigenous people- the Inuit, the Metis and First Nations (treaty First Nations and non treaty First Nations). Many countries have their own indigenous people. In Vietnam there are 56 distinct Groups of Ethnic minorities. The ethnic minority you belong to is: Tay. Piper belongs to the Nung ethnic minority. These two groups are closely related. They are part of a larger group that includes some people from China. Together this large group is called the Zhuang People. Ong and Ba have told us that you have ancestors in China. A couple of reasons this might be:
1) people might meet someone in a village across the border in China, marry them and move there; or becasue
2) the china/Vietnam border has moved a number of times over many years. Maybe the place your Chinese ancestors are from was once part of Vietnam.
Here is some information about your ethnic group.

There is a very interesting museum in Hanoi called the Vietnam Museum of Ethnology that you can learn a lot about the 56 ethnic minorities in Vietnam. We will visit the museum while we are here (once it is open again). You, Daddy and I were there when you were a toddler..so technically you have been there.....but we will go again. br>

Here is your task:
1) Read the information about the Tay People. Tell me a couple of things you found interesting. Please post pictures if it would add interest to your answer
! thing I found intresting is that a man named Hoang Duc Trieu from the tay clan worked with Ho Chi Ming. The tay peaple normally now live in Lanh Son .The Tay peaple are the 2nd largest Tai speaking group
2) Read the information about the Nung people. Tell me a couple of things you found interesting.
! one of the few thing things I found intersting is that tay people and Nung peaple often mix and are known as Tay-Nung.They are the 3rd largest Tai speaking group .
3) Read the information about the Vietnam Museum of Ethnology. Please show on a map (google maps is good for this) where we are now and where the museum is. Please take a screen shot and include this as your answer. If you need help, let me know.
